MANUSCRIPT, FARMING ACCOUNT

WORMHILL FARM, DERBYSHIRE

Unique Manuscript Item
1799
This interesting collection of items consisting of a vellum bound notebook, dated and signed John Alsop 1799 and seven vellum indentures dated variously from 1680's relates to WORMHILL FARM, DERBYSHIRE. The notebook has charming details of named cows bought and later sold, presumably after fattening , such as " Shangler" "Beauty" "Old Pricket" etc, amounts paid for oats, fat lambs, Bay Hackney mare, etc and also for rents paid to the Earl of Newbury, and the Bagshaw family who owned the farm. There are 70+ pages of accounts at both ends of the book, plus blank pages, and some pages excised. The seven indentures refer to land agreements largely with the Bagshaw family. A good collection, with plenty of opportunity for research.
