ILLUMINATED LEAF CIRCA 1520
Three Large Flowers with Floral Motifs.

This leaf, probably from a Book of Hours is French,
and Dates from around 1520 /1530. It is in Near Fine
condition, with some light smudging to the Verso. The
Recto has two large initials, different forms of the
capital "D", both with floral painting and gilding,
over painted with fine white decoration. There are
eighteen lines of text, another couple of two line
nitials, and a number of other smaller initials and
line fillers in gold, green, blue and red. The Verso
has one superb initial "D" with a flower painiting in
red, blue green and with white lining and a gilded
background. Again there are eighteen lines of text,
and another three line and a two line ( lightly
smudged) initial. The leaf measures about 20.5 x14
cm, with the initials about 5cm wide. This is a
fabulous leaf in lovely condition, and if you don't
buy it, I will frame it for my own wall .
