John Underwood - Rare and Antiquarian Books and Manuscripts

This is a lovely collection of original artwork for the famous Puffin book edition of Barbara Euphan Todd's Worzel Gummidge and Saucy Nancy story. There are three framed pictures as follows. Original pen drawings for "Worzel Gummidge and Saucy Nancy" (Saucy Nancy was a large, pointing ship's figurehead) 1) Three images showing a boat at sea, with a figure on shore, Saucy Nancy in a bath, and Saucy Nancy pointing, with seagulls around her. All three are signed "Harwood" and are to be found in the Puffin paperback. 2)Original pen drawings for "Worzel Gummidge and Saucy Nancy" . Two images, showing a lobster, shell and seaweed, and the other a pointing Saucy Nancy with a ship at sea. Both drawings signed "Harwood", and both appearing in the Puffin publication. 3) Original pen drawings for "Worzel Gummidge and Saucy Nancy". Two drawings, one showing a fireplace with portrait and ship in a bottle, the other showing Saucy Nancy under bedclothes in a bedroom. Again, both signed and both appearing in the Puffin publication. A lively collection of drawings in very pleasing condition, recently framed in gold with ivory mounts. An exceptional opportunity. These are heavy,framed pieces of original artwork, probably best for collection or delivery at a Book Fair, postage not included in this purchase.
