This is a wonderful manuscript poetry annual, written
and chosen by Henry Dison, and completed in 1820.
There is an inscription bequeathing the book to his
daughter Emma Charlotte Dison, as well as the
decorative title page (pictured) bearnig Dison's
name. The whole book in a large quarto format is
complete, with 350 numbered pages, written and
decorated in manuscript on the recto of each leaf,
including pp2 Index. Titles include : "Mrs Siddon's
Farewell Address, Address at the opening of the new
Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Lines to a Beautiful Young
Lady, On Seeing A French Watch round the neck of a
Young Lady, Lines Written on a Window, An elegiac Ode
on the death of Princess Charlotte, To The New Year
1818, Claremont, On HIs Majesty's Accession, etc etc
approximately 97 entries all in a tidy, readable
hand,many illustrated with high quality penwork and
with watercolour, drawings etc. The book is bound in
a full panelled leather gilt and blind stamped, with
a rebacked spine, sympathetically restored inside and
out, with six compartments gilt and with a gilt
title "Selected Poetry". All page edges gauffered ,
corners of boards repaired. The boards are worn but
now firm and sound, malachite marbled endpapers front
and back. A fine and highly entertaining piece of
penmanship . The illustrations provided only give a
small flavour of this book- more can be sent by
request.
