The Morning Chronicle 16.3.1825, Printed and Published
by Mr W.Clement, Strand London. Pp4, disbound. A
complete and original issue of The Morning Chronicle
newspaper. A rather indistinct ax stamp on page three.
A very clean and crisp copy. A bill is before
parliament for prohibiting the setting of spring guns
in woodland to preserve game, which is discussed ,
along with a bill which proposes making stealing from
trees a criminal offence. The back page has a good
column on Phrenology , with a series of lectures from
Dr. Spurzheim .The good doctor exhibits the heads of
"various idiots" and states that in the painting of
the Venus De Medicis the head was made so small that
with such a head the Goddess could never have
possessed much common sense. "Negro" head dimensions
are discussed with predictably racist conclusions.
About 9 column inches on phrenology, in a very
interesting newspaper.
