original and complete issue in Very Good condition,
trimmed at bottom edge of two pages slightly affecting
text.This paper contains a very good description of
"Mr Mathews" ("The Clown with Tippity Wicket and The
Life of a clown 1823, 1844 (assisted by Mr. M. Ellar -
Harlequin, Mr. Gardner - Pantaloon, Miss Williams -
Columbine- information from David Coke at
www.vauxhallgardens.com) and his performances . A long
(two thirds of a large column) piece giving details of
his jokes, patter, characterisations etc. Although the
location of his performance is not given, the
newspaper columnist hopes that their account will
excite a strong desire to see Mr Mathews. A very
unusual account of a pantomime/clown performance.
There are also good pieces on Boxing, with a letter
from Pat.Halton who expresses a wish to meet with
previous challengers before retiring at the end of the
season. There are further pugilism reports and a
"Death by fighting" piece. Good boxiana.
