FULLER,THOMAS. The Historie of the Holy VVarre by Thomas Fuller, B.D. Prebendarie of Sarum, late of Sidney Colledge in Cambridge. The Third Edition. Cambridge, Printed by Roger Daniel, and are to be sold by John VVilliams at the signe of the Crown in Pauls Church-Yard 1647. Pp [xvi] 286,28 [ii blank]. Bound appropriately in recent full panelled calf, blind stamped ,six compartments to the spine, title piece gilt. New endpapers, hand sewn headbands, old boards re-used in the binding. Complete with an added title page as frontis,(plate) , engraved by William Marshall, with following imprint: Printed by Thomas Buck one of the printers to the University of Cambridge, sold by Phil Stephens at ye gilded Lion in P. Churchyard".Old repair to gutter margin. "A declaration of the frontispice" signed: J.C. [i.e. John Cleveland]. Map is present and in fine undamaged condition. In this edition the "VV" of "VVarre" and "VVilliams" is made with two whole V’s. Another edition has the "VV" made with a broken V and a whole V. Collation conforms to ESTC System No. 006084447 Citation no.R18346 Wing (CD-ROM, 1996), F2438 A very clean copy -light damp staining to the last couple of gatherings, and the frontis and declaration of the frontis a little dusty and with light staining .Title page with small tear to top inner margin ,and with the pen inscription of Thomas Damant of Lamas, Norfolk, with date and pen doodle. The Manor House, Lammas became the home of the Damant family between the 17th century to the early 19th century. They were a family of doctors who had a private gate to the adjacent church through the brick wall which partly bounds the property. The Manor House was built in several sections over the centuries. It was begun by three sheep farming brothers, the Allens circa the reign of Henry VII with subsequent extensions - the east gable was said by Pevsner to bear the date of 1525 on the east gable. It was extended to the West circa 1600. Thomas DAMANT married Mary GUYBON 27 July 1738 in Diss, Norfolk by Licence. He was described as a Gentleman. He died on 2nd Feb 1762 and is buried in Lammas .
