MANUSCRIPT HOUSE OF LORDS STANDING ORDERS
Orders 1-120, 1626-1730
Unpublished Manuscript1730
MANUSCRIPT 1730. Remembrances for Order and Decency to be kept in the upper house of Parliament by the Lords when His Majestie is not there leaving the solemnity belonging to His Majesty coming to be marshalled by those Lords to whom it more properly appertains. Pp 116 ,blanks ,viii Index. Bound in full leather, gilt, skilfully rebacked, spine in five compartments. Bookplate of Carlingford with motto "Forte Scutum Salus Ducum". Ownership inscription of Jo.Ellis in what seems to be a contemporary hand. A fascinating document; I have seen two or three examples of similar works. It seems likely that newly appointed members of the House of Lords would copy or have copied their own "Remembrances" to aid them in their attendance at Parliament. Approx 10.5cm x 16.5 cm.
