Circa 1730 "ONION" BOTTLE
Black Glass Onion Wine Bottle
1730
CIRCA 1730 "ONION" wine bottle. Free blown with rough pontil mark to base suggesting Dutch manufacture. Found in the Essequibo river Guyana near the remains of a fort which at different times was in Dutch and English hands. These bottles when full were used as ballast in supply ships, and when emptied were discarded- in this case, thrown in the river! No cracks or chips, some surface scratches as might be expected for a glass bottle some 280 years old and river found. A delightful addition to any shelf of Antiquarian Books. Higher postage costs might apply on this item because of bulk in packaging.
