C17th WOODCARVING CARYATID
From a Newel Post. Unusual All Round Carving
OAK CARVING; C 17th Caryatid carving, originally a newel post. Carved all round,excellent colour and patina. There is a filled hole on top, and later base. Professional repair to left arm and breast and loss to tip of nose. Some old worm holes .A most unusual Caryatid carving- most that we have seen have been flat backed for attaching to furniture. This is a substantial piece of carving, some 32 cm tall x 15cm at widest points. Postage will be extra, at cost becuse of weight and bulk.
