NEWSPAPER
THE NEWS, Sunday July 2nd 1820. BOXING Interest,
QUEEN CAROLINE.
T.A.Phipps
1820
This classic English Newspaper is printed on both
sides of four pages. Each of the eight sides are
printed in three columns. The paper is entirely
original and in Very Good plus condition. The
original tax stamp appears on the front page. There
is an excellent account of A BOXING BOUT (- perhaps
10 column inches) between Cooper and Shelton,
described thus : "such a pugilistic treat has not
been experienced for the last 20 years". There is a
full account of the fight, which takes place over 34
rounds, with lively cant language used to describe
the bloody battle . There is also much about the
failure of Parliament's negotiation with Queen
Caroline, and the majority of the paper is taken up
with this issue. A very good copy of thjis paper with
exceptional content.
