THE LONDON CHRONICLE June 6 to June 9 1767
J.Wilkie
1767
This classic English newspaper is printed on both
sides of four pages. Each of the eight sides is
printed in three columns and the original tax stamp
can be found on one of the pages. The paper is in
tidy, collectable condition. There is an area of
rubbing on the front page resulting in a tiny hole.
One curious piece describes the death of the naval
Capt. Dennet " he made the following uncommon
resolution, not to cut the nails of either fingers or
toes, by which means at his death he resemb'ed
Nebuchadnezzar, his nails being hooked like eagles
claws". Another even more horrid case concerns an
eighteen year old girl who has been imprisoned in a
box about 30 inches long and 18 inches broad .Her
limbs being so contracted are useless "and perhaps
ever will be".There are many other stories and
advertisements in this tidy issue of The London
Chronicle.
